Katie Berry, FCLC’11, is Chair of the MasquerAIDS Committee. The committee has currently raised over $2,000 so far and will be hosting a MasquerAIDS ball this Friday from 7-11 in the Atrium. We checked in with Berry to get the low-down on the event:

What is MasquerAIDS?

Berry : MasquerAIDS is essentially a masquerade ball where all purchased pins wear a mask to unmask the stigma still surrounding HIV/AIDS.

How much are donations?

Berry : It is $3 for a mask and all proceeds go to Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS foundation. We’re working in conjunction with them, we’ve set up a website here. It’s very easy [to donate]. You just register as a participant and you can send out emails to family and friends and they can donate on your behalf.

 How did MasquerAIDS get started?

Berry : This is the second annual event run by FACE AIDS, a student run organization that started at Stanford University. Our main goal here is that we will be selling pins and the idea is that a little pin is making a big difference in the world and all proceeds go to women that are affected with HIV living in Rwanda.

When and where is the event?

Berry : The event will take place April 16th in Fordham’s Atrium from 7-11. There will be music, prizes, giveaways, raffles, and student live music.

What is the band line-up?

Berry : We have Ben Lebowitz, Me and Chris Idell Band, Juliet Ben-Ami, Radio Luxemberg, JC Hall and DJ Chris Chromey djing for the rest of the night.

What are the prizes for the giveaways?

Berry : We have a $50 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble which we will be giving away to the participant who raised the most funds on the website for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS foundation. Also, two $25 gift certificates: There will be a raffle for student who have sent out 10 or more emails. Their name will be put into a drawing. And you can buy raffle tickets for the other gift certificate at the door.

How much have you raised so far?

Berry : So far, we have raised $2,080.

Can student still donate if they have not already?

Berry: They can purchase a mask at the door as well as raffle tickets and all of this will go to the foundation.
