Brian Kownacki, FCRH ‘12, is making national highlight reels after a superhero leap into home plate on Tuesday.

The 20 year-old sophomore from Woodbridge, Conn. was rounding third base for home when he soared, full extension, over Iona catcher James Beck. Avoiding the tag, Kownacki scored safely, instantly garnering him “play of the year” consideration.

The leap, which has quickly become an Internet sensation, was part of a nine-run eighth inning for the Rams, who at one point trailed Iona 9-1. Fordham went on to win, 12-9. ESPN awarded Kownacki Top Play honors on Tuesday night’s “SportsCenter.” The leap also made front-page news on Yahoo.com for much of Wednesday. For video of the amazing play, click here.
