We all know exercise is extremely beneficial for our overall health, but work out regimes become boring and monotonous.  If the idea of running on a treadmill everyday sounds awful to you, its time to spice up your work out.  Electrifying music, fun dance moves, and lots of booty shaking, sound like a night out at the club?  Well this could be your new daily work out, welcome to the world of Zumba!

Zumba is a Latin dance inspired fitness class that infuses international music from all over the globe.  Salsa, Meringue, Cumbia, Calypso, African, and Brazilian Samba are just some of the dances incorporated into this thrilling fitness class.  The class was created by Columbia native Beto Perez and brought to the US in 2001. As a Zumba instructor myself I can say this class successfully infuses a complete body work out while never actually feeling like a work out.

Never danced before? No Problem! Zumba is not meant to be a class to teach someone how to dance.  It is a class that ANYONE can take to get a great work out while having a great time!  Routines are formulated to be simple enough for everyone to follow but physically demanding enough to give you a killer work out.

Zumba classes are structured as interval training and are typically 45 minutes to an hour of non-stop dancing. Zumba focuses on core strength targeting your abdominals. According to Kristie Leong MD one hour of Zumba can burn as many as 800 calories.

Ready to get in shape, and have fun while doing it?  Join the party!  The majority of fitness centers now offer Zumba classes but to find a class near you visit the Zumba website and search for classes using your zip code.
