While many of the FCLC ’14 class was getting a taste of the Rose Hill campus at the bi-campus mixer last night, talented students gathered in the Lowenstein Atrium for the Fordham Spotlight Open Mic Night. Cheesecake, cookies, fruit and soda were provided by the New Student Oritentation (NSO) staff in the Student Lounge.

At 8:30pm, the talent began to flow! Julia McKinnis, FCLC ’14, sang “At Last” by Etta James, while Charlie Martin, FCLC ’14, played piano. This duo had only met once prior to performing to rehearse, but wow-ed the audience nonetheless. McKinnis, originally from Dallas, TX, never took a singing lesson before in her life. Her tiny frame belted out powerful chords perfectly in tune with Martin’s melody. She certainly fooled us! “I’ve been singing since I was 2…since I could talk.” McKinnis said. Martin performed his own piano solo later on in the night. He takes private lessons at Julliard, as well as at Fordham.

Some of the other performers included: Esteban Orozco, FCLC ’14, Ben Lebowitz, FCLC ’11, and Louie Sullivan, FCLC ’13. There was also a poetry reading by Emily Pudisco, FCLC ’14.

The Class of 2014 is definitely a talented one!
