Lime Jungle, the FCLC-favorite affordable Mexican restaurant (second only to Burrito Box) recently gained a sister restaurant in Manhattan… a mere three blocks away from the original.

The second location at 741 9th Ave at 50th St. opened on Aug. 21, according to Lime Jungle manager Annamaria Ferencz. “Our space was very limited,” she said, referring to the first 9th Ave location, which only has seating for about 50. Ferencz said there are no plans to close the smaller establishment now that a second restaurant with more space has been opened in the same vicinity of Hell’s Kitchen.

The new Lime Jungle offers an identical sampling of delicious burritos, tacos, and quesadillas, with nothing on the menu priced above $10.95 at either location. My favorite is the spicy Mole burrito, priced $7.99 and served with chips. In addition, the signature salsa bar, featuring half a dozen varieties, has been replicated at the new location.

For a large group of diners, it’s worth walking the few extra blocks to the new Lime Jungle at 50th St. The extra seating at the bar, colorful murals on the wall, and more spacious layout offers a fun, comfortable dining atmosphere. But for a more intimate setting, I recommend sticking with the original Lime Jungle at 803 9th Ave between 53rd and 54th St., only six blocks from Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus.
