Bookish: This Week in Literary

Matt Petronzio, literary editor

Here’s a rundown of the free literary events happening in our area this week:

Columbus Circle Borders (Time Warner Center, 2nd Fl.)
10 Columbus Circle
New York, NY 10019

Chris Guillebeau

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 7:00 p.m.

Chris Guillebeau will be at our local Borders to discuss and sign his latest book, The Art of Non-Conformity. The book, whose subtitle is “Set Your Own Rules, Live the Life You Want, and Change the World,” is about unconventional strategies to live the life of our dreams. The book is supposed to be a guide on how to live with enthusiasm and excitement, and with a little dash of rebellion. Hey, it just might be worth the $14.95…

Lincoln Triangle Barnes & Noble
1972 Broadway (at 66th)
New York, NY 10023

Koren Zailckas: Fury

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 7:30 p.m.

The author of Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood revisits her past in Fury and finds depression and anxiety waiting for her. The book is about her struggle with these newfound emotions. Zailckas will be signing books at B&N.

Sherwood Schwartz: Brady, Brady, Brady: The Complete Story of the Brady Bunch as Told By the Father/Son Team Who Really Knows

Thursday, September 9, 2010 7:30 p.m.

If you loved the Brady Bunch, this is the event for you! Hear the juicy behind-the-scenes details of the hit show from writer/producer Lloyd Schwartz, Christopher Knight (a.k.a. Peter Brady), and Susan Olsen (a.k.a. Cindy Brady). If you buy the book there, you’ll get priority seating!

NOOK Training Session

Saturday, September 11, 2010 10:00 a.m.

Every Saturday at 10 AM, our local Barnes & Noble (just on the other side of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts) offers training sessions for their eBook reader the NOOK. The B&N experts can help you navigate your fully-charged reader, but you have to pre-register at the NOOK desk (oh, yes, they have a “NOOK desk”) and space is limited.

As always, be sure to check the Observatory on a regular basis to stay up-to-date on the awesome book events, signings, readings, and releases that happen in our neighborhood all the time.
