Foodie Tuesday: Off the Beaten Path, a Few Stops Away From Korean Deliciousness

Though many a delicious meal can be had during a short stroll down Ninth Ave., there’s more within reach of the Fordham community. Hop on the B or D train and head downtown to Korean Way located on 32nd St. between Fifth and Sixth Aves., where you’ll find some of the most authentic Korean food in the city.  While there are an overwhelming number of restaurants to choose from, I highly recommend Mad For Chicken–but good luck finding it on your own. It’s on the second floor of a sketchy-looking building on Fifth avenue between 31st and 32nd Sts., although the building is marked only by its address, 314 (Fifth Ave.)

According to the waitress, it is “kind of an underground place that only the locals really know about.”  And what a shame that is, because the food was to die for! The waitress started us off with a complimentary bowl of popcorn which seemed strange at first, but was actually a perfect appetizer. Then my friends and I ordered the 16-piece chicken wing plate, a side of edamame, and a side of corn, all for about $35–which wasn’t so bad when split three ways. This is a must try: the food, the service, the decor, everything was just delightful!

Interesting find, but if you’re in an area known for “some of the most authentic Korean food of the city,” what’s so special about chicken wings and edamame? You can get that at most any type of Asian restaurant…
