Holey Donuts! It’s National Donut Day!

Generally speaking, I’m not a festive person. Christmas? Pass. New Year’s Eve? I’m probably sleeping. Valentine’s Day? Please, don’t get me started. In fact, the only holidays I tend to like are the ones I can’t remember the next morning. Until now.

Voila! Today is National Cream Filled Donut Day, and I’ve had my outfit picked out all week.

Delicious.

In celebration of this “holey-est” of holidays, I marched myself over to Holey Cream, a delectable dessert shop located on Ninth Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Streets. The donut shop specializes in homemade donuts with a sweet twist – patrons can create their own customizable desserts by choosing any combination of donut, icing, toppings, and ice cream to create the ultimate ice cream sandwich.  This is what they tempt you with:

The creepily kind donut lady behind the counter said that most people who come to Holey Cream end up starting an impromptu photo session when they see their donut-ice-cream sandwiches in front of them. “They’re so impressed by our cream,” says the donut lady. Yes. Yes we are.

So if you respect your mouth at all, go get yourself one of these bad boys. After all, National Cream Filled Donut Day is one of those rare festivities where you don’t have to wake up the next morning and wonder where your shoe went. Where your diet went, yes. But at least your shoes stay put.
