Lansky’s Old World Deli: Not for Small Appetites!

With October in full swing, it is time to break out the fall jackets and scarves, and sadly, put away the summer clothing. However, while fall conjures up images of pumpkins and falling leaves in Central Park, it also means midterms and unnecessary stress. What better way to cure all that stress than with matzo ball soup and a knish!

Just ten blocks up from FCLC on 235 Columbus Avenue (Between 70th and 71st) is Lansky’s Old World Deli. Lansky’s, which has been on the Upper West Side since 2008 is nothing new to the neighborhood, however one visit is all it takes to be hooked. Think: “overstuffed” brisket sandwiches, challah French toast and pizza knish (yes, that’s right – potato knish topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese), just to name a few.

Or, if you’re feeling particularly ambitious, you can try the “jackpot sandwich,” for $21.95 – piled high with pastrami, turkey, corned beef, salami, muenster cheese, American cheese, cole slaw, sweet peppers, and Russian dressing on rye bread. If you finish, which according to the Lansky’s website , only one person has, you get a free T-shirt – and possibly a visit to the emergency room as well?

However, if you don’t feel like walking the mere ten blocks (trust me, after one trip there, you will need it!), you can always order their delicious food by takeout by calling (212)787-0400. Lansky’s is open most nights until midnight – perfect for a late dinner or a snack when you need to take a study break. For a full list of hours, and menu items visit their website!
