Ruby et Violette: Sugar Rush of the Day

Midterms bringing you down? It’s time to indulge in a sweet treat. Skip the never-ending line at Magnolia Bakery because a mere ten blocks down from FCLC, on 457 West 50th Street at 10thAvenue, is a lesser-known yet delightful bakery that will make you feel just like a kid in a candy store.
Ruby et Violette boasts 100 ways to satisfy your sweet tooth…literally. The shop carries 100 different flavors of cookies throughout the year, including Black Forest, Carrot Cake, and Oatmeal Cranberry. Feeling particularly sugar-deprived? The PB&J cookie-my absolute favorite-was rich, creamy, and delicious. I will never look at another cookie the same way again. And if you’re not in the mood for those circular bites of heaven, there is also a list of homemade ice creams, sorbets and drinking chocolates.

Cookies are $2.50 each or 3 for $6.00, a single scoop of ice cream is $3.25 and drinks range from $3.25 to $5.50. The setup has a classy old-world vibe and the staff is friendly and full of suggestions, so don’t hesitate to stay for a while and ask for some advice if the choices have left you indecisive.
No time for a study break? You can place an order on their website or call (212) 582-6720. Ruby et Violette is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am to 10 pm. For a complete menu and list of prices and hours, head over to their site. You won’t regret it.
