Sapphire, poet and author of the bestselling novel Push, will be unable to speak at Fordham’s Reid Family Writers of Color Series today due to illness. Her Q&A and book signing at Lincoln Center are canceled. In her place, award-winning poet Patrick Rosal will be reading at Keating 3 on the Rose Hill campus at 5 p.m. There is a possibility for a second reader, but no official decision has been made at this time. Check back to this post for further updates.

Patrick Rosal is the award winning author of three full-length poetry collections, Boneshepherds (forthcoming), My American Kundiman (2006), and Uprock Headspin Scramble and Dive (2003). His collections have been honored with the Association of Asian American Studies Book Award, Global Filipino Literary Award and the Asian American Writers Workshop Members’ Choice Award. In 2009, he was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to the Philippines.

The son of immigrants from the Ilocos region of the Philippines, Rosal is a New Jersey native, teaches at Rutgers (Camden), is a life-long amateur musician, and an old-school b-boy and DJ. In the late 80s and early 90s, he produced music for Metropolitan Recording Corporation, working with acts like April Kelly, Laissez Faire, and Joey Gold.
